Turkish folk song. This piece is of a 9/8 rhythm, which
is known as karsilama, and is very common in Anatolian
music. The karsilama rhythm is very popular in Armenian,
Greek, and Turkish music.
Kapetanaki
Kapetanaki is a very old Greek
folk song from Smyrni, Asia Minor. This piece is of
a 7/8 rhythm, which is known as a kalamatiano, and
is very popular in Greek music. The kalamatiano
rhythm in this particular piece is very subdued.
Whereas in other Greek folk songs, the rhythm is
performed much quicker.
Longa Riyadh
Longa Riyadh is a Classical Arabic piece. Longas are
instrumentals, which are common in both Classical Arabic
and Classical Turkish music. There are four sections,
which are called khanah, (verses), and a fifth
section, which is called a taslim, (refrain). This
particular longa was composed by Riyadh el Sunbati, who
was a brillant composer and oudist. This longa is very
popular throughout the Near and Middle East. |
